How to add Readables

How to add Books, Fanfictions, and Webcomics to your Readables.

How to add Books to your Readables

  1. Navigate to your dashboard
  2. Select the ‘Add Book’ icon on the ‘Books Read’ widget.
    • This can also be done from the ‘My Readables’ menu.
  3. Type in the ISBN number associated with your book.
    • You can find your ISBN code either on the back of your book or on the first few pages with additional printing and copyright information. It is also possible to find the ISBN by searching the book on Amazon and looking at the ‘Product Details’
  4. Select the Status and Reading Activity applicable to the readable.
    • Additionally, you can select what bookshelves you would like the readable to display on, favorite status, tags, cover color, and notes under the Additional Settings menu.
  5. Select ‘Add it!’ to add the book to your Readables list.
    • If you would like to immediately add another readable in this form, you can select “Add it & Add Another’ to submit the current readable and be brought back to the submission screen.

Alternatively, if you wish to add several books at once, select the ‘Bulk Mode’ button in the top right when on the Add Books menu.

  1. In the bulk mode, enter the ISBNs of the books you wish to add on separate lines of the text field.
  2. Select the Status and Reading Activity that will be applied to all readables entered.
    • Additionally, you can select what bookshelves you would like the readables to display on, tags, favorite status, and cover color for all readables in the bulk upload under the Additional Settings menu.
  3. Select ‘Add it!’ to add them to your Readables list.

Once the books have been added to our system, they will appear in your Readables list! Occasionally, some books require more information and will take longer to appear in your Readables list.

How to add Lots of Physical Books to your Readables via Barcodes

If you have lots of physical books and your books have barcodes you can use a barcode scanner to add them!

While many different barcode scanners may work, the Booktower team has tested with the Tera Barcode Scanner which works on both Windows & Linux and is available for $30 USD at the time of writing this.

Once you have your scanner, you can connect the provided wireless adapter to your computer (for the Terra Scanner the wireless adapter is in the bottom of the handle) and use it to more easily add books via the Bulk Mode.

Just open the bulk mode, make sure to click inside the text field, and scan away! We recommend checking your screen and submitting the list every so often, just in case something goes wrong and your submission doesn't go through.

If you've used another easily purchasable scanner with Booktower and it worked, let us know! We hope to create a list of working scanners on this page.
